You may have heard that the UK government is launching Emergency Alerts, expected summer 2021. Here’s an insight into what this means for you.
What will they do?
An Emergency Alert is sent to your phone or tablet to warn you if there’s danger to life nearby. It will also let you know how to stay safe.
Why would you get an alert?
- Testing of Emergency Alerts by mobile phone networks
- Severe flooding
- Fires
- Explosions
- Terrorist incidents
- Public health emergencies
The alerts will only be sent by:
- The emergency services
- The government
How they work:
Using usual mobile signal (phone masts) every mobile or tablet in range will receive an alert. It is not sent using a phone number and you therefore do not need to supply a number.
