What is SoGEA?
SoGEA stands for Single Order Generic Ethernet Access. It is fibre to the street cabinet broadband sold on its own, without a traditional phone line. Your calls move onto a cloud phone system over the same connection.
How much does SoGEA cost?
SoGEA 80 is £42.99 a month plus VAT, with £100 installation on a 12-month contract. A static IP is included, and there is no line rental to pay.
What speeds does SoGEA give?
Up to 80 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. The speed you get depends on your distance from the street cabinet, and we check what your line can do before you order.
Is SoGEA the same as FTTC?
It uses the same fibre to the cabinet and copper to your building, so speeds are the same. The difference is that FTTC broadband comes with an analogue phone line, and SoGEA does not.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes. Your numbers move onto a cloud phone system, which runs over SoGEA, so callers notice nothing. We plan the move so calls keep working throughout.
Why move to SoGEA now?
The analogue phone network is being switched off, with the migration due to finish on 31 January 2027. SoGEA takes your broadband off the old network, and you stop paying for a phone line you no longer need.
What about my alarm, card machine or lift line?
Anything that uses the phone line needs checking before the switch. We go through it with you, and our free switch-off checker shows what may be affected.
Is SoGEA available at my address?
Use the checker at the top of this page. If superfast broadband shows as available, SoGEA usually is too. We confirm it before you commit.
Should I choose SoGEA or full fibre?
If full fibre is available at your address, it is usually the better choice: much faster, from £45.99 a month. SoGEA is the right option where full fibre has not arrived yet.
Is a static IP included?
Yes. Every business broadband connection we supply, including SoGEA, comes with a static IP at no extra cost.
