The Norfolk Arms Hotel is a historic 37-room property in Arundel with thick stone walls, listed building status and technology spread across bars, ballrooms and gardens. ATS Connection modernised their IT, cyber security and telecoms delivering full-property WiFi, a room-by-room VoIP system and 24/7 monitored protection without disturbing guests or heritage architecture.
THE CHALLENGE
The hotel faced significant IT hurdles: thick
stone walls blocked wireless signals
throughout the building, the large footprint
meant network coverage was patchy, and the
listed status restricted where equipment could
be installed. On top of this, the existing
hardware was very dated, causing frequent
issues, and the hotel operates at high
occupancy all year round, meaning any
downtime directly affects revenue and guest
experience. The owner needed a careful,
disruption-free upgrade.
WHAT ATS DID
ATS took a three-pronged approach. For IT
support, files and the in-house chat system
were migrated to an open-source platform
hosted on a renewable-energy VPS, with RMM
software deployed to monitor every hardware
device remotely. For cyber security, award-winning antivirus was installed across the estate
alongside 24/7 monitoring and extra network-layer protection, ending a history of repeated
cyber attacks. For telecoms, a high-speed
leased line was installed with wireless access
points positioned discreetly throughout the
hotel and gardens, plus a modern VoIP
phone system with handsets at reception,
behind the bars and in every guest room.
THE RESULT
The Norfolk Arms now enjoys fast, reliable
connectivity across the entire property
including the garden, with separate guest
WiFi networks and a modern VoIP system in
every room. Cyber threats are blocked around
the clock, hardware is proactively monitored,
and the hotel’s IT simply works without
interrupting the guest experience or
compromising the building’s historic character.
