Switching IT provider, step by step

Our typical onboarding plan takes three weeks, with a zero downtime target. Click through each step to see what we do, what you do and what your team will actually notice.

Before you start

Check your notice period

Step 1 of 6

What we do

Help you read your current agreement for its notice period and exit terms, then plan a start date that lines up with the end of it, so support never lapses.

What you do

Find your current IT contract. Most need between 30 and 90 days notice, and some renew automatically if you miss the window.

What your team notices

Nothing. Your current provider carries on as normal.

Free, no obligation

Free 30-minute review

Step 2 of 6

What we do

A senior engineer looks at your devices, Microsoft 365, security and backups, and tells you plainly what they find.

What you do

Book a time and spend 30 minutes with us, on a call or in person.

What your team notices

Nothing.

Before you commit

One price, in writing

Step 3 of 6

What we do

Give you one fixed monthly figure in writing, not a range, plus the one-off onboarding fee, typically £500 to £2,000, so there are no surprises later.

What you do

Tell us your headcount and what you use, then decide. There is no obligation.

What your team notices

Nothing.

Week 1

Discovery and documentation

Step 4 of 6

What we do

Meet your team, audit your environment and document everything: devices, accounts, licences, backups and who holds which passwords.

What you do

Give us a main contact and approve the plan. Day-to-day work carries on.

What your team notices

Very little. Systems are audited in the background, with no disruption to day-to-day operations.

Week 2

Secure handover

Step 5 of 6

What we do

Work with your outgoing provider to collect documentation, passwords and admin access, and introduce your named ATS engineers to your users.

What you do

Give us permission to contact your current provider. You do not have to manage them yourself.

What your team notices

A short introduction to the engineers who will look after them, and one new number to call.

Week 3 onwards

Live and proactive

Step 6 of 6

What we do

Monitoring goes live, the security baseline is hardened, and your account lead schedules your first quarterly review.

What you do

Start raising support requests with us. That is it.

What your team notices

Faster answers from people who know your setup, and a plan for the problems that kept coming back.

This is our typical plan. Larger or more complex setups can take a little longer, and we agree the timing with you before anything starts.

FAQ

Switching IT provider: common questions

Our typical onboarding plan takes three weeks: discovery and documentation in week one, a secure handover in week two, and full live support from week three. Before that, the timing usually depends on the notice period in your current contract, and we plan the start date around it.

It should not. Our onboarding plan has a zero downtime target. The audit and documentation happen in the background, your email and files stay where they are, and the handover is planned so your team keeps working throughout.

No. With your permission we work with your outgoing provider to collect documentation, passwords and admin access. Your part is usually approving the plan and telling us who to contact.

You can still switch. If an outgoing provider is slow or unhelpful, we can rebuild the documentation, reset admin access and secure your systems ourselves. It can take a little longer, but it does not stop the move.

Monthly support is from £30 per user, excluding VAT, and there is a one-off onboarding fee, typically £500 to £2,000, which covers auditing, documenting and taking over your systems. You get one price in writing before you commit. See our IT support pricing for the full breakdown.

Ideally before your notice period ends, so the handover overlaps with your current provider and support never lapses. Most IT support contracts need between 30 and 90 days notice, so it is worth checking yours early.
